Yes, all is right in my little world of So You Think You Can Dance. It’s amazing, really. Apparently I’ve wanted sarcastic, dedicated, chunkily-proportioned underdog: JEANINE MASON to win this deflated season for some time and now that she has? I’m satisfied.

Sure, runner-up Brandon Bryant “deserved” it - he’s an absolute powerhouse, but I haven’t connected with him in the heart parts, and it seems that counts for a lot among us viewers.

Tonight we revisited this season’s “memorable dances” whilst whittling the Top 4 down to the sole possessor of the “America’s Favorite Dancer” title and the $250,000 smackeroon prize.

FIRST ELIMINATION: Kayla Radomski gets cut. She is undoubtedly a gorgeous dancer. Especially loved her in the “Addiction” dance (coming up below), and she was almost consistently amazing as a performer in each number. I will miss her sweet, sobbing grandpa most of all. VIDEO

My final thoughts:

1) I’m fine - even happy - with the outcome. How about you? Do you agree that Jeanine should win?
2) Is this terrible encouragement to stage mothers across the world to force their children to take up things like dance, even when they’re miserable like Mama Mason did to Jeanine? Something to think about.
3) Why wasn’t Janette in the Top 4 again? She’s a HOT TAMALE, YES SHE IS!
4) Congratulations, Jeanine, for sneaking by and swiping that crown!

Tonight our Top 4 dancers performed for the last time (for viewer votes) on So You Think You Can Dance! Wow, are we really at the end of this road?

Yep! It’s Night One of the finale so I hope YOU’RE AS STOKED AS CAT DEELEY IS TO BE IN THE KODAK THEATER!!! (Sers, she was so giddy). The place is packed, the judges and audience are cracked out and our guest panelist is one of my faves: Mr. Adam Shankman.

Our 4 dancers will be swingin’ this evening. No, I don’t mean in the “big band swing dancing” way, I mean the “doing it with multiple partners” swinging - he-llooo! Each dancer will get a chance to perform together. Dance routine videos (from MJ) and recaps ahead!

MY TOP GUY & GAL: Brandon Bryant & Jeanine Mason (the best balance of technique and personality)

TOP 4 GROUP NUMBER: Pop Jazz by Wade & Amanda Robson - “Boys Boys Boys” by Lady Gaga (VIDEO): The dudes are football players (snicker) and the girls are cheerleaders. It’s easily classified as a “fun” dance, but I expect so much more from Wade’s choreography. I got hypnotized by the stage lighting and background screen instead - very 1987 Star Search in decor.

In case you’re already feeling SYTYCD withdrawal, we’re reminded that Season 6 is just one month away(!!!) by an overly intense preview with blaring music and Sin City-style fast-fast-sloooow-fast cuts of the audition footage. It’s impressive and I’m ready for it (and I’m not just saying it because my eyes, ears and brain are bleeding from that sensory overload). I’m excited about “meeting” new dancers who’ll actually win my heart over (no pressure, Nathan Trasoras - VIDEO).

Jeanine Mason & Evan Kasprzak - Jazz by Sonya Tayeh - “Heartbreaker” by MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend (VIDEO): Once again, Ms. Jeanine shows more adorable, sarcastic personality in her interview package (Kayla, you’s got work to do in that department - oh, er, too late). My real problem with this dance was they were lacking some energy or something because the massive stage really swallowed Jeanine & Evan up. The dance was ok, the dancers were fine - though it’s clear that Jeanine is the stronger one and all eyes invariably end up fixed on her over ol’ heavy-lidded Ev-dawg.

Brandon Bryant’s solo - “Dies Irae” by Karl Jenkins (VIDEO): He’s so strong and can moooove, but put in a lot of flips and it came off smidge frantic (Adam agrees with me - twinsies in the making!). I am not into his McDonald’s Hamburglar black and white striped shorts. It’s weird, Brandon says he isn’t confident but he did have a very noticeable, haughty, “Take THAT, biaaatch!” sneer afterward. The judges make it no secret that they have a full blown crush on him.

Kayla Radomski & Brandon Bryant - Broadway by Tyce DiOrio - “Bye Bye Life” from All That Jazz (VIDEO): Boo, the two most technically skilled dancers get saddled with the choreographer who annoys the bajeebus out of me. We open immediately with serious *JAZZ HANDS* movements. Kayla is looking good in a black bondage-y, gothic-y leotard thing. Brandon is stuck wearing a jacket of disco ball skin. The music is stupid, in my opinion - it doesn’t fit the vibe and movements on-stage and the piece isn’t cohesive… a waste of two of the best dancers. The thing that DID rock pretty hard was the simultaneous pirouettes they pulled off. Nigel makes a good point that, unlike Jeanine & Evan’s dance, these two actually possessed the energy and charisma to fill the humongous Kodak stage.

Jeanine Mason’s solo - “Por Una Cabeza” by The Tango Project (VIDEO): It’s troubling to learn in that Jeanine has a serious stage mom who (repeatedly) shoved her into dance. But more disturbing was that her makeout with Jason after their Travis Wall Contemporary piece wasn’t planned. He’s a lil creep, that Jason (yeah, I’m not really a Jeanine+Jason ’shipper). She does a Tango-styled solo with these waaay slow, controlled pirouettes (it’s the night of pirouettes!). The audience are on their feet afterward and give her a lot of love even though she had a fake flower in her mouth the whole time - muy dorky, senorita!

Brandon & Evan - Pop Jazz by Laurieann Gibson - “Nasty” by Janet Jackson (VIDEO): Laurieann is back with her crazy pink headphones around her neck. She’s interviewed for the rehearsal footage, but all I can recall her saying is something like, “Boom boom hah! Cah! Cah! boom… Boom hah! Hah! Cah boom!”  Brandon really owned this number because Evan doesn’t seem to really “go for it” like Brandon. It’s not just me: Evan isn’t nasssstay or gritty enough for the judges either (maybe it’s a compliment for his personality off-stage, but we wanted you to make us feel grrrr and dirrrtay, Evan!).

Jeanine & Kayla - Contemporary by Mia Michaels - “The Four Sections IV: Full Orchestra” by Steve Reich (VIDEO): The ladies make birdie-like movements in this dance about their journey on the show. Throughout the piece, they shed layer upon layer of skirts. Ohhh, symbolism. That’s deep. It’s a serious number but I’m wondering where the frat boys are to chant, “Take it off! Take it off!” I’m mature. Overall, there are times when it feels like Jeanine is giving more, and others when Kayla seems to hit harder. It’s a neck-in-neck race to the finish for these two women! Lovely to watch, although I don’t know if I agree with Mary that these two are the strongest Top 2 ladies ever on the show…

Evan Kasprzek’s solo - “The Best is Yet to Come” by Michael Buble (VIDEO): Same old, same old Broadway charm. Evan (a.k.a. Pit Stains McGee) doesn’t totally win over all of the judges because this was very similar to his audition routine. Some may say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” - that Evan knows what his fans like from him, but I wonder… why not bring something riskier (or at least new) to the finale to show you’re not just gonna phone it in? Nigel verbally poops on Evan. Truth hurts, so they say.

Kayla & Evan - Jive by Tony Meredith & Melanie LaPatin - “T.R.O.U.B.L.E.” by Travis Tritt (VIDEO): The jive is usually my favorite Latin dance to watch and this doesn’t cut the mustard.  Their kicks don’t snap enough (remember Nigel’s snake tongue retraction demo earlier this season for hm, oh yeah, Evan?). Although, maybe if Kayla took off those big fat cowboy boots it would’ve helped. I did think their “slow motion” lifts were cool, but hated the huge, blinding spotlight in the background that kept blocking out the dancers. The audience chants, “Evan! Evan! Evan!” when he doesn’t win stellar remarks over Kayla and I try to keep my eyes from rolling. Ok, I get that we like an underdog, but how about rooting for Jeanine, who has spent the season fighting her way out of Phillip’s shadow and then Kayla and Janette’s? She’s really clawed her way up the totem pole of DANCE.

Kayla Radomski’s solo - “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” by Eurythmics (VIDEO): They re-show Grandpappy Radomski’s crybaby moments and I fall in love with him all over again. Her solo is alright…at least the judges love her. Unofficial POLL: Do you think Kayla or Season 4’s Katee Shean would win a dance off? Both are gorgeous dancers, but both lack some personality. Katee was a little more fun and “girl next door” friendly, but I wonder who would win that cage match? Hmm…

Jeanine & Brandon - Paso Doble by Louis Van Amstel - “Tetsujin” from The Matrix Revolutions (VIDEO): I’m all into the Paso Doble’s fiery, sexy McHotness and these two don’t disappoint. They’re in appropriate scanty, black Matrix outfits and have intense furrowed brows. Kinda odd music choice but there’s some good musicality in Louis’ choreography. They’re passionate and give it their everything. The dance earns them a standing ovation from the audience, eardrum-bursting screams from Mary and perverted comments by Nigel about wanting to “do stuff” to Jeanine. He dares to wager that Jeanine & Brandon are the Top 2 of the night. Will that rally Evan and Kayla voters and jinx them?

I wouldn’t rule anyone out at this point. Certainly Brandon, Kayla and Jeanine have equal pros and cons in terms of technique, passion, personality and growth. Evan is still the odd man out and the weakest for me, but America seems to like- nay- adore him so I can’t ignore that he could still win the whole thing…and that I will throw something at my TV in rage if he does. *sigh* I want justice, but I must remember that the winning title isn’t “America’s Best Dancer,” it’s “America’s Favorite Dancer.”

Soooo… tomorrow night is IT: the season finale of So You Think You Can Dance! Besides finding out who Season 5’s “Favorite Dancer” crown goes to, we’ll also be treated to a reprise of the Mia Michaels’ A Chorus Line mirror routine with the Top 8 and the season’s judges! Also, performances by Talia Fowler (Season 2 winner & of SYTYCD Australia) and The Rage Boyz Crew.

Who deserves to win? Who will take the title? ….hey, is it time for Season 6 yet?? Until tomorrow, friends!

Did you catch tonight’s dancing fisticuffs between the Top 6 of So You Think You Can Dance? I did and you know I loved that Nigel echoed my complaint that this season’s contestants have totally boring personalities. I hear ya, Lythgoe!

Anyway, loquacious Lil C was back as the guest judge and our dancers picked new partners. Hey, what are the odds that the ladies all managed to draw the names of guys they haven’t been paired with yet? Huh! Whodathunkit?

MY BOTTOM GUY & GIRL: Evan Kasprzak and Melissa Sandvig (they’re just the weakest of the night *shrug*)

GUYS GROUP ROUTINE: Jazz by Sonya Tayeh - “True Romance” by She Wants Revenge (VIDEO): Ah, another weird, stompy jazz number by Sonya that’s supposed to have a Willy Wonka theme. I was pretty captivated (as I usually am with Sonya’s numbers), but I had trouble getting past the dorky golf outfits and yellow day-glo gloves. What’s so “Willy Wonka” about that? Sonya was pleased as punch with the dance, but I think it would’ve have a stronger impact if their costumes were tricked out more. Like why not full-on Wonka tuxedos and hats or canes? Anyone catch the girl who yelled, “Yeaaaah, rock it!!”? I wondered if it was an audience member, or Mary Murphy?

Jeanine Mason & Ade Obayomi - Samba by Louis Van Amstel - “Love Game” by Lady Gaga (VIDEO): This couple had so much potential to sex this shizz right up, but Ade was the weak link. His smile is amazing but became too cheesy for this routine - he should’ve been smoldering and intense instead. He was also a little too wiggly-suave (which he does well), rather than show command and flirtation. The judges agree (and harp about his techinical faults too). Jeanine they loved (as usual). She was shaking it and caused her dress’s @ss plumage to fly everywhere.

Jeanine & Ade - 2nd Dance - Hip Hop by Tabitha & Napoleon - “Move (If You Wanna)” by MIMS (VIDEO): Hm, Jeanine may end up having the most likeable personality of everyone if her interviews are anything to go by. I’m starting to root for her despite her over-the-top, barely there outfits. This had all the elements of being a crowd-pleaser: NappyTabs + Props (boxes) + Theme (eviction) + Possibility that Jeanine would fall on her ass = w00t w00t! It was fun to watch, and while she didn’t fall, Jeanine was a little slippity sloppy in her hippity hoppy (hi-yooooo!) over Ade’s leg. Still, the judges loved it and it was one of the better routines of the night. Lil C said it was “buck”, so… there you go.

Melissa Sandvig & Evan Kasprzak - Broadway by Tyce DiOrio - “Get Me to the Church On Time” from My Fair Lady by Matt Dusk (VIDEO): Now I love Melissa but why is her hair always a hot, rat’s nest mess in her rehearsal footage? Poor gal. This number is about a couple who are rushing to the church for their wedding and is built for Evan’s Broadway skills. Quick question: Why are they getting married in their underwear? Moving on. I blame Tyce for these boring Broadway numbers. There’s nothing in the imagery he creates that is really memorable. Also, I agree with Lil C that they should’ve been more exaggerated in their movements and *jazz hands*. It was lacking a bit, although not for Mary, who came up with the corniest line of the night, “‘Get me to the church on time?’ How about ‘Get me to the finale on time!!’” She loved them.

Melissa & Evan - 2nd Dance - Quickstep by Louis Van Amstel - “As Long As I’m Singin’” by The Brian Setzer Orchestra (VIDEO): So, to all you Evan fans who try to tell me that he’s the beeeeest everrrr: did you catch in the rehearsal footage that both Melissa and Louis didn’t fully trust him? If they don’t trust Evan as a performer, why should I? I’m just saying… Anywho, that was a quick, Quickstep (harhar) and you really couldn’t help but notice how Melissa was taller (and stronger) in the number. The judges didn’t completely go over the moon about it and worry for Mel & Ev. Or MelVan.

Kayla Radomski & Brandon Bryant - Contemporary by Stacey Tookey - “All I Want” by Ahn Trio (VIDEO): This should’ve been amazing since it featured the two strongest Contemporary dancers this season. Not really an original theme (she’s a mistress trying to break up with his married man). Brandon is shirtless and hot, but I wish they’d turn on the freaking lights! The stage is so shadowy that I could barely catch their angsty “Stay away! Come back to me.. No! Yes… NO!” facial expressions and that would’ve added more to the drama. Ah well. I’ve seen better Contemporary numbers, but the judges looooooooooooove it - it’s clear which couple they’re all pimping to be in the final 4.

Kayla & Brandon - 2nd Dance - Disco by Doriana Sanchez - “Dance (Disco Heat)” by Sylvester (VIDEO): Doriana has been kicking sweet tail this season. It’s unbelieveable that I look forward to her dances almost as much as Mia Michaels’ or Sonya’s numbers. Kayla already has Boogie Nights-era hair and looks the part. These two put a bunsload of pop and zing into it: beads and sequins are flying everywhere and Brandon tosses Kayla like a ragdoll with some shocking lifts. These two are brave. Now, I liked the Disco numbers from Janette & Brandon and Melissa & Ade more, but this is undeniably impressive. It’s clear to me that someone’s definitely on the Hot Tamale Train and that’s Ms. Doriana Sanchez, YES IT IS! Catch the judging section when Lil C rambles about “pockets of music,” Mary has a psychotic, squealy-shrieky episode over Brandon’s confession that he has low self esteem and Nigel does the finest fake-out with a stern review-turned-screaming and dancing celebration over their talent. According to the judges, these two need to survive this week.

GALS GROUP ROUTINE: Jazz by Sonya Tayeh - “Kick It” by Nina Martine (VIDEO): Another fun theme (lady  Superheroes!). I was pretty amused by the rehearsal footage, including Jeanine accidentally punching Kayla in the face (where was Grandpappy Radomski with his shotgun?). Sadly, this dance lacked energy for some reason. It was caught between a dark tone and a very kitchsy, campy theme. And then it started looking like an aerobic workout. Did these girls rehearse enough? I prefered the guys’ group dance much more. Lil C articulates what I’m thinking and feels the ladies were holding back to be “courteous” to the one another. Okay, I forgive you for the “pockets of music” speech now, Lil C (or as Mary called him “Lil Buck”). I totally agree.

SOLOS

Kayla Radomski’s solo - “You Found Me” by The Fray (VIDEO): The beginning felt sloppy, but she picked up momentum at the end. Wouldn’t it be great if the dancers stop being predictable and bopping “sassy-like” to the final beats of the “So you think you can… dance… dance… dance…” music? Ick.

Ade Obayomi’s solo - “18th Floor Balcony” by Blue October (VIDEO): I’m still into that baby smooth Ade chest. HAWT, but is it enough to win more votes? I hope so! Did you see those millions of spins he did? I lurve it!

Melissa Sandvig’s solo - “I Put a Spell On You” by Nina Simone (VIDEO): Omg, I just figured out that Melissa looks like Julia Stiles! Anyway, she busts out the “naughty ballerina” ‘tude that got her on the show in the first place, but let’s be honest, ballet is kinda boring and so is her solo.

Brandon Bryant’s solo - “O Fortuna” from Carmina Burana (VIDEO): Practically naked, Brandon repeats his SYTYCD audition number that originally made me love him. For me, this was not AS strong as it was then, and I thought Ade brought something really special to his own solo tonight, but Brandon was gorgeous - like a Greek statue - and the audience and judges ATE. THAT. UP. (Standing O from all three judges).

Jeanine Mason’s solo - “Feedback” by Janet Jackson (VIDEO): She showed a lot more character than the other ladies, so this was the strongest female solo of the night.

Evan Kasprzak’s solo - “Lady is a Tramp” by Sammy Davis Jr. (VIDEO): More “aw shucks, ain’t I cute?” personality and Broadway energy. I must begrudgingly admit, it was one of his best solos (which he needed, since his two pairs dances tongiht were not that great).

So you know what I thought - do you agree that Melissa & Evan should go home? Be sure to tune in to So You Think You Can Dance tomorrow night at 9pm for the results AND because there will be some GREAT guest dancers!

Tonight our Top 8 dance-dance-DANCED for us on So You Think You Can Dance. We got Mia Michaels as a guest judge along with “who invited her to the party?” talk-show host, Ellen DeGeneres. K, I like her, but just cuz Ellen does goofy dancing on her show doesn’t mean she’s an expert for the panel. Sers! We got new couples and the judges all refused to use adverbs proper(LY), but let’s move on to the dancing.

Each pair did two numbers and then all 8 dancers did a solo. Videos (from MJ) and recaps below:

MY BOTTOM GUY & GIRL: Evan Kasprzak & Melissa Sandvig (she’s actually one of my faves but I’m being objective here)

GROUP ROUTINE: Choreographed by Travis Wall - “Let It Rock” by Kevin Rudolph ft. Lil Wayne (VIDEO): The dancers are all doing some hippity Contemporary to this rock/Hip Hop song, wearing Lite Brites and glowing Geordi LaForge visors in the dark. It was aight, can’t complain.

Janette Manrara & Evan Kasprzak - Jazz by Sonya Tayeh  - “Move” by CSS (VIDEO): For me, it’s Evan’s time to go home this week. He just doesn’t bring enough passion and ownership of the dances compared to the other three guys. He has the “aw shucks”, shrugged shoulders attitude which may work for old fashioned Broadway style dancing, but makes his other performances so pedestrian. I was focused on Janette during most of this number cuz she hit the moves like boom, boom, pow(!), and Evan, well, he was there in the background…

Janette & Evan - 2nd Dance - Rumba by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin - “Heartless” by Kris Allen (VIDEO): Wow, this song sounded way better when Kris “Monkey Jaw” Allen sang it on American Idol. Again, Janette stole the spotlight and I thought I saw Evan falter in the beginning and at the end on some steps, but the judges didn’t mention it so maybe I’m cuhrazeh? I preferred Melissa & Ade’s Rumba from a few weeks ago to this one. A little dark and empty for me.

Jeanine Mason & Brandon Bryant - Waltz by Hunter Johnson - “May It Be” by Hayley Westenra (VIDEO): Wow, SNOOZE CRUISE alert! Poor Jeanine got stuck wearing this totally unflattering canary yellow dress. The judges weren’t too pleased with this Waltz and neither was I. It was so uninteresting, especially coming from two of the strongest dancers of the season. I thought these two would be a dream couple, but this Waltz did them ZERO favors. Yeech. Skip it!

Jeanine & Brandon - 2nd Dance - Pop Jazz by Laurieann Gibson - “Battlefield” by Jordin Sparks (VIDEO): This dance was a big improvement, but I was NOT feeling it as much as the cracked out judges. Nigel was suddenly raving like a mad man about how much he loved it, and he sort of peer pressured Mary into Hot Tamale Train-ing the dance. What I liked was the energy and strength, but I had problems with the fact that Jeanine was slightly ahead of Brandon’s moves in parts of the dance! Right? Who else caught that? They definitely weren’t that together so I was distracted - it was like the “boot camp” rehearsals with Laurieann effed with Jeanine’s head so she was overcompensating to keep up with her partner. Still, they got the judges’ love and methinks America loves them too - should be safe tomorrow.

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi - Cha-Cha by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin - “Yeah (Como Goza Mi Morena)” by Chino Espinoza Y Los Dueños Del Sol (VIDEO): I was so happy to see Melissa & Ade reunite, but yikes, this dance wasn’t good at all. Love her old ass as I do, Melissa was really weak in the Cha-Cha. She didn’t possess much fire or hip action and looked uncomfortable attempting to do so and that was all I could focus on. Unfortunately, because this was one of the weakest dances, I think Melissa may be going home tomorrow. The other three gals are just incredibly strong and deserve to stay longer. The only highlight was Ellen’s tongue-in-cheek comment, mocking the terrible puns that usually come from Mary and Nigel, “Are you two carpenters? …Cuz you NAILED it!” (Note: Ellen didn’t have anything bad/constructive to say about any dance tonight, so her reviews don’t really count).

Melissa & Ade - 2nd Dance - Contemporary by Tyce DiOrio - “This Woman’s Work” by Maxwell (VIDEO): So this emotional dance about breast cancer had every judge on the panel in absolute tears (except Ellen). Yes, that means Nigel was choked up and crying, Mary’s tears left tracks in her make-up and Mia was absolutely sobbing during her critique. I love this song, I love this couple, I loved the emotion Melissa brought to it, I loved Ade’s sweet strength, but I was honestly more moved by the judges’ reactions than by the dance itself. Maybe I just had really high expectations because I’d heard rumors that it was so powerful… but I’m not sure I agree with Nigel that this is one for the SYTYCD history books. I’ll remember it for breaking down the judges, but the dance itself wasn’t too memorable for me.

Kayla Radomski & Jason Glover - Broadway by Tyce DiOrio - “Mr. Monotony” from Jerome Robbins Broadway by Kim Criswell (VIDEO): This was a swanky, smooth number. I appreciated Kayla’s dancing tonight more than the other girls - she has grace, style and performs really well as each “character”. Her personality off the dance floor? Well, that’s another story (a.k.a. bor-ring!). Grandpappy Radomski was back in the audience just splitting at the seams with pride and, as I always say, he’s the real reason why I like watching Kayla dance.

Kayla & Jason - 2nd Dance - Hip Hop by Shane Sparks - “They’re Everywhere” by Izza Kizza (VIDEO): After his previous Hip Hop numbers failed this season, I’m sure Mr. Sparks was out for redemption. Luckily, he had strong dancers as a resource and made a Michael Jackson Thriller-esque zombie dance. It was very entertaining and Kayla & Jason have good chemistry together. I do wonder how Tabitha & Napoleon felt after hearing Nigel say he’d been disappointed in the Hip Hop this season? Back-stabbed!

SOLOS

Kayla Radomski’s solo - “The Moment I Said It” by Imogen Heap (VIDEO): One of Kayla’s better solos in the past weeks. She showed a lot of control, really breathed into her movements and hit some beautiful lines.

Jason Glover’s solo - “…Slowdance On The Inside” by Taking Back Sunday (VIDEO) - Pretty boring, actually. Just lots of split leaps and stuff.

Janette Manrara’s solo - “Seduces Me” by Celine Dion (VIDEO) - She slowed it down and I really missed her quick, hot Salsa solos. It was okay, but not much of a stand-out for me.

Ade Obayomi’s solo - “Hater” by Various Artists Production (VIDEO) - A much, much improved solo from last week’s. His musicality was way stronger on this number and he was unique, a little odd, and did some powerful leaps and spins - please keep Ade, America! How can you resist that cheshire cat smile?

Melissa Sandvig’s solo - “Headless” by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (VIDEO) - Totally more interesting than last week’s slooow ballet solo. It came off a bit 80’s and Flashdance-y, but that’s not really a bad thing. I just don’t know if it’s enough to save her. Waaah.

Evan Kasprazak’s solo - “Old Devil Moon” by Jamie Cullum (VIDEO) - He dropped his prop hat and had crazy armpit sweat stains, but I thought he was charming and loved the flip he did. (That doesn’t change the fact that I want him to go home already.)

Jeanine Mason’s solo - “Let the Drummer Kick” by Citizen Cope (VIDEO): Vewy intewesting. Man, Jeanine is thick, isn’t she? It’s sorta distracting, but that’s not to say she isn’t very talented. Nice song selection on her part, and was one of the best girls’ solos of the night.

Brandon Bryant’s solo - performed to “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with That” by Robert Randolph and the Family Band (VIDEO): Brandon is a pack of dynamite. I could watch him dance for hours. Keep this mofo around, even if he’s kinda annoying in rehearsal footage.

Tomorrow night is the big, FAT 100th So You Think You Can Dance episode EXTRAVAGANZA! We’ll be graced with Wade Robson, famous routines from past seasons (I hope they’ll be re-danced by previous contestants, but I won’t hold my breath) and Katie Holmes dances a tribute to Judy Garland. Plus, we find out which guy and gal get sent home - it’s getting tough to predict… Be sure to tune in!

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi - Disco (Doriana Sanchez) - “Move On Up” by Destination (VIDEO): Melissa slips/falls during the routine, but recovers and judges loved it, especially their crazy, strong lifts.

Melissa & Ade 2nd Dance - Waltz (Ron Montez) - “Natural Woman” by Mary J. Blige (VIDEO): Very pretty, but the judges think the technique and “rise and fall” could definitely be improved upon. Still sounds like Melissa & Ade belong in the top.

Kayla Radomski & Kupono Aweau - Contemporary (Mia Michaels) - “Gravity” by Sarah Bareilles (VIDEO): A powerful dance about addiction that the judges really enjoyed because Kaypono are both very dedicated “actors” as well as dancers. They also still love Kayla something fierce.

Kayla & Kupono 2nd Dance - Broadway (Joey Dowling) - “The Dance at the Gym” from West Side Story The New Broadway Cast (VIDEO): Ok hold that thought about Kaypono being good actors because they didn’t “bring it” for their characters in this number. The judges were lukewarm and said they needed to dig deeper. Uh ohs!

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover - Foxtrot (Tony Meredith & Melanie LaPatin) - “Minnie the Moocher” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (VIDEO): Judges liked it and thought they were both smooooooth. Will it be enough to save these two from the Bottom 3 though?

Caitlin& Jason 2nd Dance - Jazz (Mandy Moore) - “Show Me Heaven” by Maria McKee (VIDEO): A better performance, but their chemistry is still so-so according to Nigel (I agree!). If either of them survives elimination this week, it could be interesting to see if next week’s partner switch-up helps.

Jeanine Mason & Phillip Chbeeb - Russian Folk Dance (Youri Nelzine & Lilia Babenko) - “Kalinka” by Barynya (VIDEO): Very mixed reviews. It wasn’t an overall success like the Bollywood numbers have been in their efforts to add international dance styles. Nigel said it was “folky”, y’know for a Russian Folk Dance…Jeanine is still the stronger dancer between the two.

Jeanine & Phillip 2nd Dance - Jive (Tony Meredith & Melanie LaPatin) - “Stuff Like That There” by Bette Midler (VIDEO): A really fun number. The judges love Jeanine so she’s finally getting her moment to shine, away from Phillip. They’re not counting him out yet (even though his dance technique continues to be “blah”) - theories are that they’re just trying to keep him on long enough to at least make the SYTYCD Top 10 tour. Shame, shame FOX (but ok, it makes sense).

Randi Strong-Evans & Evan Kasprzak - Hip Hop (Tabitha & Napoleon) - “Halo” by Beyonce (VIDEO): Team Short Stuff managed to do really well for being out of their comfort zone. They are a couple who find out that they’re pregs (”babies havin’ babies”). The judges seem to place these two in the middle of the competition. Definitely not pimping them as much as couples like Janette & Brandon.

Randi & Evan - Samba (Pasha & Anya) - “Ritmo De Bom Bom” by Jubaba (VIDEO): They’re a cute, wee couple, but didn’t bring enough spicy-spice for this Samba. *sad trombone*

Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant - Argentine Tango (Leonardo Barrionuevo & Miriam Larici) - “Libertango” from Forever Tango original Broadway cast (VIDEO): Wow! A standing ovation from the judges! What can’t this couple do? Their tango wins raves from Nigel. Next week everyone gets a new partner though, so what happens if it’s like, Brandon with a weaker female dancer like Caitlin (if she escapes elimination)? Will his lucky streak continue?

Janette & Brandon 2nd Dance - Pop Jazz (Wade Robson) - “Ruby Blue” by Roisin Murphy (VIDEO): Un yeah, it’s in the bag for these two to make it to the Finals. Another perfectly executed dance number. These two are unstoppable, but I still don’t know if they’re as likeable as like…last season’s Katee & Joshua. Either way, they DO deserve to make it to the end. The bigger question is Who else is close enough in talent to join them?

Tonight’s the Top 12 elimination show and Kelly Rowland and David Guetta will sing “When Love Takes Over.” Things’ll shake up next week when the couples get scrambled!

Ooh la la! The pressure was on in tonight’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance: a lot of the dancers got their own styles or genres that weren’t too much of a stretch AND guest-judging was “love you or hate you” Contemporary choreographer, Mia Michaels. Like everyone else, I couldn’t wait to hear if she still couldn’t stand Brandon Bryant for no reason besides his face “annoys the sh!t” out of her…could he win her over? Let’s find out! MY BOTTOM 3: Randi & Evan, Caitlin & Jason and Karla & Vitolio

Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant - Cha-Cha - Jean-Marc and France Genereux - “Hush Hush; Hush Hush” by The Pussycat Dolls (VIDEO): Can these two do any wrong?? Guess that applies to both couples: Brandon & Janette AND the best ballroom choreographers evs, Jean-Marc & France. The dancers nailed this Cha-Cha and, to use Mary Murphy terminology, they were two spicy sexpots waiting to board the first class coach on THE HOT TAMALE TRAIN - YES THEY WERE - WOO WOOO!! Nigel said it was the best Cha-Cha ever on the show and they were so good that Mia did some furious backpedaling and pretended that she was only an outright bitch to Brandon during auditions because she “saw soooo much potential in him.” It was sort of like those made-for-TV movie moments when the drunken husband slurs, “I’m sorry! I only beat ya cuz I loves ya, baby!” Whatevs, I still think she was out of line with her personal attacks during his auditions (not critiquing his dance technique, but his FACE? Come on.). So far, Brandon definitely has what it takes to win this entire show, BUT can he and Janette win enough fans over? Also, will their egos get the best of them?

Kayla Radomski & Kupono Aweau - Jazz - Sonya Tayeh - “Eyes on Fire” by Blue Foundation (VIDEO): This was a perfect number for “Kaypono” - another bizarre, angsty, ragdolly Sonya number. The pair were moody, broody and sexy vampires and it worked. They were totally into their characters and their movements were so together. They looked ever so loverly (y’know, for a dance about death and bloodsucking immortals) and the judges finally gave my boy Kupono some props for his talent! He reminds me more and more of last season’s resident Hawaiian dancer, Mark Kanemura, with his style and embodiment of characters, but he’s sexier to look at. Love ya, Kupono! Hey producers, BTW, can we get some more shots of Kayla’s teddy bear of a grandpa? I miss him.

Randi Strong-Evans & Evan Kasprzak - Broadway - Joey Dowling - “Rich Man’s Frug” from Sweet Charity (VIDEO): This dance was a little too much like last week’s “Butt Dance” (boy-chasing-girl) at first and I thought the music was all wrong and understated for the choreography. I disagree with the judges and blame the choreographer for this underwhelming number. Evan & Randi had some strong moments, but overall I was not really into the number and Evan did come off looking weirdly feminine in some of his movements. It’s getting really hard to pick “Bottom 3″ couples this week because we’ve got some fantastic dancers this season, but Team Short Stuff is on my list for the week.

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover - Pop Jazz - Brian Friedman - “Creator” by Santogold (VIDEO): Caitlin played an alien who destroyed mankind and was trying to impregnate Jason, the last human on Earth. Very Xenu. I am still not in love with this couple, but they both did their best to commit to the ridiculous roles given to them, so props for that. Jason even had a few leaps in the dance that were beautiful and impressed me more than he normally does, but overall it was a very strange number and like Mia, I was way distracted by Caitlin’s outfit - something resembling a vacuum-sealed garbage bag coiled with aluminum foil. FASHION POLICE. Poor Caitlin - another pair for the Bottom 3.

Jeanine Mason & Phillip Chbeeb - Hip Hop - Tabitha and Napoleon - “Love Lockdown” by Kanye West (VIDEO): Wow these fools lucked out by getting another Tabitha & Napoleon number!  No Shane Sparks er anything to possibly screw them up. The dance literally chained Jeanine & Phillip at the ankles to represent their partnership on the show — funny how for me the chain came to symbolize how I’ve been stuck with Phillip on my TV, wonking up dance after dance and sending better dancers home. Sorry Chbeeb lovers, I’m sick of his one-note, over-pouty, fish stank face. Yes he’s a talented hip hop dancer, but even in his own genre, his performance (a.k.a. his character) always sucks and he doesn’t emotionally connect. Unfortunately for me, this dance was a success so I guess he’s safe for another week. SIGH.

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi - Pas de Duex - Thordal Christensen - Romeo & Juliet (VIDEO): I was glad to see Melissa, our sole ballerina, get to do this dance. I still really root for this couple! Definitely not Ade’s strongest dance, but it was far from a disaster and what these two lack in technique they made up for in emotional connection and chemistry. But I wonder if audiences will vote for a classical ballet number…? I hope they stay safe!

Karla Garcia & Vitolio Jeune - Quickstep - Jean-Marc and France Genereux - “Puttin’ on the Ritz” by Rufus Wainwright (VIDEO): I put these two in my Bottom 3, but honestly thought they did a really excellent job and enjoyed their spunky Quickstep moreso than Melissa & Ade’s Pas de Deux. But Mia was right that sometimes Karla wasn’t fully in her character and had a stunned facial expression that took a little away from their dance and lost some points from me. HOWEVER, I am also really rooting for this couple because Karla & Vitolio were, IMHO, anchored down by weaker partners in the past weeks and this dance alone showed that they have a lot more to offer. Overall it was a fun, quick-changing Quickstep! I mean, Karla’s dress totally transformed in the middle of the number, and that’s gotta be a crowd-pleaser. Will it be enough though?

Tomorrow night we get a performance by “AUUGH KELLY CLARKSON!” and find out which gal and guy are leaving us. Who will they be? Tune in to So You Think You Can Dance at 9pm on FOX!

Herm, tonight’s So You Think You Can Dance felt muted and a little stale… I wasn’t impressed by the opening solos (maybe give them a hair more time to dance, producers?), Nigel was sorta crabby, Mary didn’t scream very much and guest judge Toni Basil wouldn’t stop preaching about “street dancing,” “funk” and “grooving” (Hey Toni, you’re so fine, you’re so fine, but it isn’t 1985 anymore) . My BOTTOM 3 couples: Karla & Jonathan, Asuka & Vitolio and Caitlin & Jason.

Karla Garcia & Jonathan Platero - Hip Hop - Dave Scott - “By My Side” by Jada Kiss ft. Ne-Yo (VIDEO): Dammit. I know that Karla is part of the America’s Best Dance Crew group The Boogie Bots so this was her chance to show off that she’s a Contemporary dancer who can nail Hip Hop too!  Unfortch, darling as he may be, Jonathan really weighed her down in this number - he’s just too darling and soft for Hip Hop. I agree with cranky ol’ Nigel that they played it too safe and were out of sync toward the end. They really needed to hit is harrrrrd but failed, so it won’t be a surprise if they’re in the bottom tomorrow. Save Karla!

Asuka Kondoh & Vitolio Jeune - Jazz - Mandy Moore - “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar (VIDEO): God, as if I needed more reasons to love Vitolio! The interview package won him a million brownie points when it showed his sensitivity and dedication in comforting an overwhelmed Asuka. He is too sweet and erm, well, he deserves a new partner! I thought this “thrash-rock-jazz” dance was okay choreography, but Asuka’s performance felt restrained and bland. I wanted more energy, more performance from her and didn’t see it. Hm, what do we think about a pairing off Vitolio and Jeanine, or Vitolio and Karla? I think all three have a lot of potential, but need to find better partners. Save Vitolio!

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi - Rumba - Tony Meredith - “Emotion” by Destiny’s Child (VIDEO): This was a very sexy-sexy, slow-mo rumba. I am glad that they continue to put Ade in outfits that completely expose his pecs. Totally solid dance, although it could’ve been a little tighter in some of the turns. Still, I love this couple more and more each week and would love to see them stick around to Final Four. You heard me! We love old ballerinas and smooth, smooth man-chests!

Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant - Hip Hop - Dave Scott “What a World” by Common (VIDEO): Ah, MUCH better Hip Hop routine! Thank god because I was worried that we’d have a 2-week dry spell of good Hip Hop dances (Shane Sparks, I blame you for last week). Dave Scott and his funny beard came up with a clever “Rock and Roll” v.s. “Hip Hop” dance. Somewhat hard to follow in parts, but there were some awesome and entertaining moments (like the synchronized air guitar bit).  Anyway, my early prediction that Janette and Brandon were going to be a couple to beat still stands! They both have amazing technique, push themselves and work hard. But can they stay up top forever…? Personality and fan base are going to come into play and I’m not sure if the younger voters are that into them.

Kayla Radomski & Kupono Aweau - Viennese Waltz - Jean-Marc and France Genereux - “Sweet Dreams for You” by Jewel (VIDEO): We know I love Kupono and Kayla(’s grandfather), so I really wanted them to mesh well (even though Kupono basically stole the place of Kayla’s partner Max) and they did! Their Waltz was one of the highlights of the night. The choreography told a nice story (he’s dancing with her in her dreams), and it was just ethereal and elegant. I’m so glad they did well and they’re the only couple of the night that Mary put on the “HOT TAMALE TRAIN WOO WOOOO!” Hope they stay out of the Bottom 3.

Randi Strong-Evans & Evan Kasprzak - Contemporary - Mia Michaels - “Koop Island Blues” by Koop ft. Ane Brun (VIDEO): This was “The Butt Dance”. Yes, Mia made an entire dance around the hypnotic powers of Randi’s butt. Hm. It was definitely another well-danced number from the Shorties, so they deserve to be safe. A few things came to my attention: 1) Who else saw Randi’s “Unitard Girl” superhero shirt during rehearsal? Pretty awesome. 2) I love that they made a big deal about Randi’s marriage and being uncomfortable with Evan grabbing her weeks ago. But in last week’s Jive, it was Randi who attacked Evan with repeated, enjoyed grab-assery. And then tonight’s number gave Evan the freedom to let his hands roam, nay, squeeze the bajeezus out of her rear end. Seems like someone wants Mr. Unitard Girl to come to the studio with a shotgun. 3) We have a THIRD WEEK where the dancers in a Contemporary number are wearing silk. Why? WHY? This routine had so many fun costume possibilities since it was actually a Contemporary piece NOT about an angsty couple writhing around and throwing themselves at one another. So why not have more fun with the wardrobe? Ok, rant over!

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover - Paso Doble - Jean-Marc and France Genereux - “O Fortuna” from Carmina Burana (VIDEO): I looove Paso Dobles - the passion, the intensity - mmm. Hotness. I also love “O Fortuna” for the same reasons. BUT these dancers didn’t sell this number for me - no, not even while wearing that ridiculous Conan the Barbarian attire. Caitlin and Jason looked like they had trouble keeping up (just like in the Bollywood dance). They don’t have very good chemistry either. It’s too platonic, almost brother/sisterly so there’s an “ick” factor to watching them try to get hot and heavy with one another. I just didn’t buy it.

Jeanine Mason & Phillip Chbeeb - Broadway - Tyce Diorio - “Moses” from Singing in the Rain (VIDEO): Is Phillip still in this competition? He’s really fun to watch doing his own thing, and tonight he was much better than last week, but c’mon! Enough is enough! He’s a weak link and really hasn’t let Jeanine get a chance to shine. I agree with Mary, she is a fantastic dancer and performer, but she’s always overshadowed by Chbeeb’s feedback each week. While the judges are busy panning him, they forget to give Jeanine props for doing well in a new dance style. The best part of their number was when Phillip’s pants rip at the booty (PIC HERE).

Agree? Disagree? Bottom three? We’ll see. Tee hee! Okay, enough. So, tomorrow night’s results show features guest performers The Veronicas and a group number choreographed by Dmitry Chaplin, Tabitha and Napoleon. Tune in to So You Think You Can Dance tomorrow night at 9pm on FOX!

You can’t ask for better summer entertainment than So You Think You Can Dance. These choreographers and dancers are so talented, the judges are playful but genuinely supportive (are we taking notes, American Idol?). It’s a good time had by all, so pull up a chair. Joining judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy tonight was Hip Hop/Krumpmaster Lil C, who is always an odd judge. His long-winded, flowery comments always start out a little Paula Abdul - like I brace myself with,”Oh man, this is gonna get all kinds of crazy,” but once he makes his point, I totally get what he meant with all those metaphors and similes. But then he goes and spits some wonky grammar like, “You did good” and I wonder where my Lil C-hakespeare went.

Randi Strong-Evans & Evan Kasprzak - Jive - Louis Van Amstel - “Shake a Tail Feather” by Ray Charles (VIDEO): Who else snorted or cheered when Randi came out in one of her infamous unitards during her solo? *raise hand* Being an occasional Dancing With the Stars watcher, I know I’ve seen sharper, harder-hitting Jive numbers than what Team Short Stuff did. It wasn’t that bad, but there was a clunkiness to their dance, even though they had the right energy and “dance faces” on. Judges agree.

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi - Jazz - Sonya Tayeh - “24 Hours (the Ashton Shuffle A-Bomb Remix)” by Terry Poison (VIDEO): Wow, I am totally LOVING Ade more and more. He is so gorgeous, I can’t get over it - could he bump front-runner Brandon Bryant from the spotlight? Hmmm. I always look forward to Sonya’s nasty-weird-sinister Jazz numbers, but I found it was missing some cohesion (maybe that’s what Sonya was going for). Also, I really like Melissa & Ade as a couple, although I thought Melissa could’ve attacked the moves harder, but hey, she’s the old ballerina, so it’s cool. Keep ‘em around!

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover - Hip Hop - Shane Sparks - “Missin’ You” by Trey Songs (VIDEO): Caitlin looks more like LeAnn Rimes every time I see her. Those blond curls and squinty eyes - straight Rimes, I tell ya. Anyway, this number didn’t do it for me. It’s not like the dancing was really poor, but their performance was laughable - super corny, effeminate grins throughout…gross! Where the stank faces at?!  Mary pointed out that they weren’t in sync either. She was totally confused about why Caitlin & Jason didn’t click, but hello? I remember that last week their Bollywood dance was NOT as hot as the judges said. The two of them were struggling with that also. Yeah, this was my least favorite to watch - just too “cute and fluffy” for a hip hop dance.

Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant - Disco - Doriana Sanchez - “Loving You is Really My Game” by Brainstorn (VIDEO): Speaking of look-a-likes, anyone else see that Brandon = Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (PIC)? I think it’s his cheesy grin. I still love him though! Ok, so believe it or not…I actually liked watching this disco number! Guess it just takes the right dancers, but they really killed this wild, fast disco number without being too cornball. Janette had trouble with the steps in rehearsal, but her pep really fit with this number. Lots of lifts and splits, too. Not bad for disco, which usually suck hard. Even Lil C, one of Brandon’s critics, had to give him props tonight! Still a power couple, these two.

Asuka Kondoh & Vitolio Jeune - Waltz - Louis Van Amstel - “Dreams Are More Precious” by Enya (VIDEO): Ok, so I’m still not really an Asuka fan because (espesh after last week’s “dance for your life” solo) I feel like she tries too hard to “act”. Like “act sexy,” “act sad,” “act supportive of partner”. On the other hand, I really like Vitolio and think he’s cute when he’s not drowning in his sweat (suck it, Asuka! Who the hell tells a partner, “I don’t find you attractive” after just meeting them? How rude!). With all that said, I thought this Waltz was lovely. The music, the elegant movements, the emotion behind it and Vitolio’s orphan upbringing…what a combo *wipe tear*. I admit that Asuka was graceful and made the right “tragic, distressed” faces, but I still feel that she wasn’t as genuine as Vitolio’s performance. But very strong overall, the judges loved it and Mary started crying.

Kayla Radomski & Max Kapitanniko - Pop Jazz - Brian Friedman - “Hot Like Wow” by Nadia Oh (VIDEO): Oh my, I really liked this weird shiz! Totally entertaining number where Kayla played a princess being entertained by Max, who seduces her in a plot to steal the throne - Mwahahaha! *twirl mustachio menacingly* Like Mary, I was distracted by Max’s baggy-crotched MC Hammer pants, but it was a really compelling storyline! Kayla really is fun to watch, and the judges were drooling all over her, but HELLO Grandpa Radomski was in the audience! Just seeing him tearing up with pride made me want to cry all over again. I. Love. Him.

Karla Garcia & Jonathan Platero - Contemporary - Stacey Tookey - “Falling Slowly” by The Frames (VIDEO): Is there an unspoken rule that every Contemporary dance number requires that one or more of the dancers must wear silk? Like say, a silk slip, a silk dress shirt, or silk pajamas? Let’s get more creative, people! But no matter, s’all good cuz I like Jonathan & Karla (although Karla is stronger) and they were one of the better couples of the night. I wasn’t as into it as the judges were - Season 4 had better Contemporary numbers IMO (Katee & Joshua, Kherington & Twitch) and the emotions felt a little forced. But overall, solid, so please keep them around, America! Jonathan is soo pretty and I wanna see Karla bust out her Hip Hop skillz in the future!

Jeanine Mason & Phillip Chbeeb - Tango - Tony Meredith - “Violento (Up Mix)” by Bailango (VIDEO): Eh, that was pretty weaksauce, especially Phillip. I get that he’s a fun pop-locker to watch, but I’m never convinced that he’s strong enough outside of his genre. Jeanine actually redeemed this for me with her sultry Tango-lady role, but as a whole, it was like watching two kids do a “tango” for a high school talent show. Will they end up in the Bottom 3 where they belong, or will Chbeeb’s fangirls save him?

Ashley Valerio & Kupono Aweau - Hip Hop - Shane Sparks - “Imma Be” by Black Eyed Peas (VIDEO): The concept had sooo much potential: Ashley lays on the ground as Kupono’s shadow and mimics his movements… but execution-wise, they didn’t pull it off. I couldn’t tell who to watch because they were both doing their own thing: Ashley was getting the moves and ‘tude right, but Kupono has his own style and I love watching him move. Unfortunately, based on this dance, they may end up in the Bottom 3 tomorrow. Save Kupono!

Catch So You Think You Can Dance at 9pm to see which guy and gal get cut. Also, Mia Michaels is choreographing a group number for the Top 18. Will she tone down her crabby attitude? Will Brandon prove himself to her? Guess we’ll have to watch and see!

At last! Tonight we got the first taste of what our So You Think You Can Dance Top 20 are capable of. There were some stand-outs and some burn-outs (ok, not that bad, but sounded cooler that way). Who will become “America’s Favorite Dancer” this season and take home the $250,000 prize? *dum dum DUMMM*

Jeanine Mason & Phillip Chbeeb - Hip-Hop - Tabitha and Napoleon - “Mad” by Ne Yo (VIDEO): A lyrical hip hop routine about a couple who have an argument and need to “talk it out” before they fall asleep. Bad sign: I’ve already forgotten who Jeanine is *thinking, googling* Oh! Kay, she’s a cute Anne Hathaway look-alike and was able to hold her own with Chbeeb, the pop-locking King of Kings (as far as the judges are concerned). It was alright for me, but I tuned out in the middle cuz it wasn’t as emotionally compelling as some of Tabitha and Napoleon’s previous numbers (e.g., last season’s “No Air” with Katee & Joshua or “Bleeding Love” with Chelsea & Mark). The judges were really into it though.

Asuka Kondoh & Vitolio Jeune - Broadway - Tyce Diorio  - “Hot Honey Rag” from Chicago (VIDEO): First of all, after seeing Tyce’s delight in giving rude, bitchy comments to auditioning dancers in past weeks, I now find him pretty obnoxious (and that floss-thin beard outline has GOT to go). But even if I liked him, I thought this choreography was too slow for the pippity-peppiness of the song. Beyond the choreography, the other issue was Asuka & Vitolio were doing as Nigel said: hitting their dance moves, but not putting enough energy and personality into the roles. As much as I like Vitolio, I worry for this couple. This was one of the weakest performances of the night - didn’t *grab* my attention.

Karla Garcia & Jonathan Platero - Cha-Cha - Tony Meredith - “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga (VIDEO): Ohmigoodness, Salsa dancer Jonathan is so cute! Like the missing, sweetheart Gotti son. Contemporary dancer Karla is really likeable too. The pair had great chemistry on this Cha-Cha. Weird putting it to “Poker Face” and what is WITH the wonky camera angles? But Karla & Jonathan brought a little “skanky ho” to this Cha-Cha and it totally worked! Not technically the best Cha-Cha I’ve ever seen, but it was sexy-sexy. I’d love to see these two move on for sure. And PS, I hope I wasn’t alone in snickering when Nigel said, “You two just exploded on that stage! Jonathan, when you came through Karla’s legs with the splits like that, you shocked everybody!” …THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!

Randi Strong-Evans & Evan Kasprzak - Jazz - Tyce Diorio - “I Only Have Eyes For You” by Jamie Callum (VIDEO): I know who Evan looks like! Marshall Flinkman from Alias (PIC)! Anyway, these two are the teeniest couple (especially when standing next to beanstalk Cat) but make a lovely pair. Even though they just met and Randi is married, the pint-sized duo had a nice connection and convincingly played a couple in lurve: y’know, lotsa intense, rolling around on each other and lifts. I’m glad to see Randi is leaving her dance unitards behind - maybe she’ll be leaving her hubby behind too, oh suh-nap j/k!

Paris Torres & Tony Bellisimo - Hip-Hop - Tabitha & Napoleon - “Let the Beat Rock (Boys Noize Megamix)” by the Black Eyed Peas (VIDEO): So apparently Paris was in a car accident which has made her left leg numb from the knee down. Ouch - much respect, girl!  Tony should’ve aced this since hip hop is his thang, but the number overall was “ehhhh”. The judges feel Tony needs to work harder on his “stank face”/playing the character AND improve his dancing. But he is sooo adorbs! Unfortunately, it can’t hide that this was another weak performance of the night.

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover - Bollywood - Nikuul - “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire (VIDEO): Seriously, Caitlin looks like LeAnn Rimes. Bollywood numbers are always fun to watch and it helps that they danced to the popular “Slumdog” theme song. An entertaining number for sure but I wasn’t as into it as the judges only because I thought Caitlin & Jason weren’t always synchronized, and sometimes I could see them lose character in trying to remember the steps. Still, they’re a cutie couple and deserve to move on. 

Janette Manrara & Brandon Bryant - Foxtrot - Louis Van Amstel - “Come Fly With Me” by Michael Buble (VIDEO): Well, I was rooting for this pair because I looove Brandon (a.k.a. he of verbal beatdowns by Mia Michaels and Lil C) and his strength. I gotta say though, this number was pretty boring (he wasn’t technically that stellar and why shove Janette in a very chaste floor-length dress that hides her amazing leggy-legs?) until the last jaw-dropping lift/spin. Brandon literally had Janette flying. So impressive, but not a real stand-out performance as a whole for me.

Ashley Valerio & Kupono Aweau - Jazz - Wade Robson - “Felt Mountain” by Goldfrapp (VIDEO): I adore Kupono - especially after this insanely creative and memorable “Crash Test Dummy” routine. No doubt that Wade Robson is a talented guy, but this eye-opening dance completely exceeded my expectations! So unique, bizarre and clever! Both Ashley & Kupono did a tremendous job playing the characters of these crash test dummies (metaphor for a relationship). They were like robotic ragdolls and constantly kept their hands not in “jazz hands” but in crash test dummy-style “jazz blades” - love it! I think it suited Kupono’s dance style perfectly. Heart! 

Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi - Contemporary - Mandy Moore - “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx (VIDEO): So “naughty ballerina” Melissa, will now play the role of “naughty OLD ballerina”. At 29, she’s the oldest dancer on the show, but hey - with her experience, she looks like a very good match for Ade - a powerful, gorgeous contemporary dancer. This was yet another contemporary number that put our dancers in silk pajamas and had them dance lovingly with one another. So thematically sort of lame, but with Ade & Melissa behind it, it was performed with extraordinary precision and passion. Some rad lifts up in there too!  The judges ate it up! I’d like these two to stick around so I can see them in a more interesting number.

Kayla Radomski & Max Kapitanniko - Samba - Louis Van Amstel - “Jum Bah Day” by House of Gypsies (VIDEO): Wow, hot, hot, hot Samba! That was insanely good! Kayla was really sensational for someone who hasn’t had ballroom training. In audition footage she’s always a sweet/meek girl, but she really brought some fuego to the dancefloor and I was impressed by her confidence. I still miss seeing her darling crybaby of a grandpa, but I bet he was sobbing hysterically with pride after seeing her do that well. Max I can do without (sorry!), but I’d love to see Kayla continue. The dance definitely deserved the ride on the Hot Tamale Train!

Not a bad start at all! I’m excited by the potential of all of these dancers. Which guy and girl are going home tonight though? Find out by tuning in to So You Think You Can Dance at 9pm on FOX!

Ooh la la! If the chemistry is right, Brandon Bryant and Janette Manrara have the potential to be a real power couple and hit moves with the wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am that I love. I can’t wait to see everyone in action - I wanna be wowed!
