Jane Lynch Hosts SNL This Week!

Funny lady du jour, Jane Lynch, is hosting Saturday Night Live this (spoiler alert)… Saturday!

Known by most as Glee’s acerbic, tracksuit-sporting cheerleading coach, Sue Sylvester, Ms. Lynch is finally getting mainstream praise for her comedic chops. But some of us have admired Jane’s improv genius and delivery for years thanks to her earlier appearances in Christopher Guest comedies like Best in Show and A Mighty Wind. More recently, she stole scenes from the bros in bromantic flicks like Role Models. And last year, Jane was seen guffawing loudly alongside Meryl Streep in Julie & Julia.

And before all of that? Jane’s big break was in a Frosted Flakes cereal commercial!

Well, we all gotta start somewhere…

There should be no doubt that Jane Lynch can rile up a humorous ruckus on SNL, but that’s only so long as the writers and cast can keep up with her. I gotta say: if these awkward promos with regular, Fred Armisen, are any indication of how Saturday’s show will go… well, my beaming smile might start to twitch and crack into a concerned, Stepford Wife-style grin:

Ehhhhh… Well, just tune in to Saturday Night Live on NBC this Saturday to see if J. Lynch gets you LOLzing! *fingers crossed* Musical guest is Bruno Mars.

Amy Poehler Opens SNL Season as Host

I guess they didn’t want to use Tina Fey again, so Saturday Night Live dipped into their recent-alum pool and recruited “that other funny chick”, Amy Poehler, to host SNL’s season premiere on September 25th!

I love T. Fey, but Amy Poehler is an awesome second banana, not afraid to act a fool for laughs, and her own show, Parks and Recreation, was consistently funnier than The Office last season (yeah, I said it!). This may be her first time hosting, but she has what it takes to get us LOLing. Plus, we can predict an Amy and Seth Meyers reunion for Weekend Update! Really!

As for the rest of the SNL cast, there will be some missing and new faces. Jenny Slate will be gone after just one season with the show (ouch?). The master of weird/creepy characters, Will Forte, is also leaving (so long MacGruber!). On the other hand, there are four new cast members will be joining: Vanessa Bayer and Paul Brittain of iO Chicago (a.k.a. improvOlympic), comedian Jay Pharoah and Taran Killam of MADtv (he’s also engaged to actress Colbie Smulders from How I Met Your Mother).

Saturday Night Live premieres Sept. 25th on NBC. Musical guest will be Teenage Dreaming, California Gurl: Katy Perry!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Goes For the Gold

Did anyone catch Julia Louis-Dreyfus on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien last night?

Now, I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again: I loved her on Seinfeld and I love her on The New Adventures of Old Christine.  Julia’s got comedy chops for miles, and she’s likable as hell.  Take a look at this charming broad:

Love her!  Oh, and if you wanna be in on the inside joke here’s footage of Julia stealing Tina Fey’s Emmy.  Cameo by you-know-who at the end, so wait for it!

And yes, Kenneth the Page DOES work at NBC ’round the clock.  Didn’t you know 30 Rock was a documentary?

Pretty Pants Timberlake Rescues SNL After Tina Bails

KAT NOTE: Time for more Sanji, people!  Gather ’round…

Wow, people are actually talking about Saturday Night Live… and Tina Fey wasn’t even on last Saturday’s episode!

Paul Rudd’s hotness was all over SNL like melty buttah on my morning toast.  Sasha Fierce was the musical act, and for those of you not in the know, that’s Beyonce’s stage alter-ego. FYI, my alter-ego is Taco Tequila. she can usually be found getting into trouble somewhere on the East Side between the hours of 9 p.m. and 4 a.m.

So blah blah chuckle-worthy ED commercial, har har Andy Samberg digital short, sad sad Amy Poehler-less Weekend Update… and then out of nowhere, here comes Justin Timberlake! Pretty Pants Timberlake saved the day when he tucked himself into a leotard and did a little hippy hippy shake as Beyonce’s back-up dancer. It was so funny I almost had jug wine coming out of my nose!

But you’re probably thinking “Sanji, you? Home?  On a Saturday night?” Psssht, naw.  Taco Tequila was out while Sanji indulged in some SNL and Carlo Rossi.

SNL Casts a Couple o’ Funny Broads

Abby Elliott and Michaela WatkinsThe women of Saturday Night Live have been pretty hilars lately, definitely standing out amidst a sea of brown-haired dude cast members.

Which makes it kinda bum that baby mama Amy Poehler will be bouncing shortly, while Tina Fey will be retiring her Palin impression for good.  However!  SNL recently announced the addition of two new female cast members to keep up the quota, namely Abby Elliott, daughter of former cast member Chris Elliott, and Groundlings-trained Michaela Watkins.

Hope these babes work out!  I wonder which one of them will be playing Michelle Obama.
