Secrets, secrets are no fun–secrets, secrets hurt someone!
Watch out world, there’s a new genre in town, and it’s kicking ass and taking names! It’s the evening soap opera, which I guess we could just call dramas, but these aren’t your run-of-the-mill cop dramas, or lawyer dramas, or (heaven help us) medical dramas. No, these are revenge dramas, soap operas thinly disguised as evening programming. The CW, ABC Family, and, surprisingly, ABC are the major purveyors of deliciously vengeful series focused on things like twins, vengeance, and comeuppance. Righteous, right? I’ve covered all of these before, but really: ya’ll need to tune in.
The Lying Game’s (ABC Family) mid season finale aired Monday night, with Emma trying to come clean before Sutton’s return to Phoenix, Ethan confessing his love for Emma to (oops!) Sutton, and Thayer realizing his dad spied on him in Los Angeles. AND the emergence of Annie, and the submergence of Sutton! If you weren’t watching, you really missed out: this series is only going to get better when it returns in January!
Ringer (The CW) has been picked up for a full season (!!) and Tuesday’s episode didn’t disappoint! We finally saw some movement on the Malcolm storyline (seriously, finally), Juliet went to public school so we get LOGAN ECHOLLS IN THE FLESH–er, as Mr. Carpenter, her teacher, Bridget framed herself for Gemma’s disappearance, and Siobhan showed up being all devious, as usual. Good times. Soap times!
Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family) is on a break right now, but the Halloween episode aired last night, with plenty of Alison DiLaurentis! I won’t give anything away, because it’s all so convoluted anyway, so check it OUT.
Revenge on ABC. It’s amazing. Some of it is ridiculously contrived–a bar in the Hamptons isn’t profitable during the high season? Really? But watching Amanda/Emily take, er, revenge on morally compromised people is pretty satisfying, especially with sidekick Nolan along for the ride, saying what we’re all thinking. Last night, Emily came close to being exposed; lucky for her, Conrad Grayson’s man-of-all-work Frank unintentionally did the dirty work for her! One of the best new shows of the season, folks. Tune in for vengeance!
Project Runway finale blah blah blah tonight. Anya? You’re winning, right? Inevitably? Talk about soap operas!
