30 Rock: A Muppet Show Rip-Off?

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from our friends at 30 Rock.  Oh, the woes of the summertime TV show hiatus!

Aw, shucks.  Well, just to keep your heads spinning, let me call your attention to a blog post from writer Bryan Lynch, who makes a bold comparison between 30 Rock and The Muppet Show, even going so far as claiming ole 30 is a rip off of the Jim Henson TV classic!

30 RockThe Muppet Show

Read through his thesis and let me know what you think.  I heartily chuckled at the Jenna Maroney / Miss Piggy comparison and enjoyed the Tracy Jordan / Gonzo analysis, but pretty much anything past the Jack Donaghy collection seemed to me to be based solely on appearance.  Which was still funny, but… yeah, it’s clearly not a perfect comparison.

Either way, it makes for an interesting read; I love me a good conspiracy theory.

And while we’re on the topic of show parallels, am I the only one who thought Family Matters was a human version of Dinosaurs?  Sorry, dudes, I was like eight.

Party Crashers: Statler & Waldorf on Jimmy Fallon

Oh man! Not to go overboard with my Muppet Show references this month, but I love me some Statler and Waldorf!

The pair hijacked Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Friday night with some trademark curmudgeony jabs.  Fallon was interviewing puppet-lover and How I Met Your Mother-er Jason Segel, who was there promoting his new movie I Love You, Man with Paul Rudd.

Peep this:

BADUM-CHHH!  Totally awesome.  Don’t mess with those two!

Oh, and you can watch the entire episode here, if you’re so inclined.  Are you?

I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Muppets

OH NO THEY DIDN’T!  WARNING: NSFW!

At the risk of sounding totally uncultured… what the fudge is this?!?!

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac

Oy vey!  I finally understand what it’s like to care about animal rights.  Sup, PETA?

Per DListed, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac’s Paris fashion show this week featured heads n bits from everyone’s favorite characters from  The Muppet ShowClick through the whole series to see Kermit, Fozzie, and Animal all cut up and slapped together in the name of fashion.  Thank GOODNESS no Muppet Babies were harmed.

Notably missing: Miss Piggy and Gonzo.  Could they be behind this?

Hmph.  If I were Statler attending this particular fashion show, I’d break the fourth wall from my balcony seat and direct the following question to the audience:  “Hey! Did anyone order the frog’s legs, well done?”

And then my cohort Waldorf would be all, “Well done?! Looks pretty lousy to me!”
