Celebrity Apprentice: Bret Michaels

Oh my goodness, you guys!!!  I haven’t heard news this exciting in a while!  I literally gasped when I read the news!

Looks like my man Bret Michaels will be on the next season of Celebrity Apprentice!  The Poison frontman and Rock of Love / Rock of Love 2 / Rock of Love Bus (ha!) reality star will be duking it out again his fellow near-celebs to win Donald Trump’s respect and some dolla billz for the charity of his choice.

The New York Post put out a list of castmembers before NBC could even get to it.  Here’s what they have in store for us:

* Sharon Osbourne (America’s Got Talent)
* Cyndi Lauper (”Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”!)
* Carol Leifer (Seinfeld writer, Elaine was based on her)
* Bill Goldberg (wrestler)
* Daryl Strawberry (
baseball dude)
* Curtis Stone (Aussie celebrity chef)
* Summer Sanders (Olympic gold medal swimmer)
* Sinbad (comedian!)
* Holly Robinson Peete (Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper?)
* Maria Canellis (wrestler)
* Rod Blagojevich (disgraced Illinois gov!)

The return of Blago!  The real Elaine!  Wrestling!  What do you think?  Will you be watching?

Kramer Walks Through a Door

If you’ve got a good 6+ minutes to spare and love both Seinfeld and the elegant entrances of Cosmo Kramer, you’ll probably want to see this.

It’s a video of Kramer’s entrances, in chronological order!  Watch:

Personally, I got a bit motion sick after the first minute, but I did enjoy what I saw.  It’s cool to see the progression of Michael Richards’s wackiness.

Let’s get a compilation of Elaine Benes’s trademark “Get OUT!” next!

The CW Remakes Seinfeld!

Funny or Die brings us a sneak preview of another remake by the fine folks at The CW.  Following in the footsteps of the Beverly Hills, 90210 remake 90210 and the revamped Melrose Place, check out the upcoming Seinfeld 2.0:

What’s the deal with how crappy that is?  Jk jk jk jk jk don’t mean to be a jerk.

A great idea, with poor execution.  I understand this is a joke about how CW shows are vapid and infused with hoodies and references to texting (sexting?).  But…. eh.  Could be much, much better.  Performing Seinfeld lines in a monotone ain’t a joke.  It’s kind of depressing.

Would’ve been funny to create new one-liners.  Throw in a joke about the Internet maybe?

The Tangled Web of Seinfeld Characters

Oh man!  Here’s a little character TMI for the die-hard Seinfeld fan:

The World of Seinfeld Web

Yeah, you can barely see that - what a monstrosity!  Click here for an enlargement.

Dailyfill posted an amazing social map charting out memorable supporting characters from Seinfeld, including friends/acquaintances, lovers, co-workers, and family members, all color-coded up.  Actor names are listed in parentheses.

Pretty fantastic, right?  It’s amusing to see how many girlfriends Jerry and George had - they pale in comparison to Elaine and Kramer’s lists.  Nice work, gentlemen.

Funny that Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David wrote much of the show, though.  Wish fulfillment?

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Goes For the Gold

Did anyone catch Julia Louis-Dreyfus on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien last night?

Now, I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again: I loved her on Seinfeld and I love her on The New Adventures of Old ChristineJulia’s got comedy chops for miles, and she’s likable as hell.  Take a look at this charming broad:

Love her!  Oh, and if you wanna be in on the inside joke here’s footage of Julia stealing Tina Fey’s Emmy.  Cameo by you-know-who at the end, so wait for it!

And yes, Kenneth the Page DOES work at NBC ’round the clock.  Didn’t you know 30 Rock was a documentary?

Seinfeld vs. Seinfeld XXX

Well, now I’ve heard everything.  Apparently a company called New Sensations is making a porno parody of Seinfeld.  Yes, Seinfeld. Possibly the least sexy show of all time.

Check out the trailer below - and don’t worry, it’s totally SFW, no nudity in this one.  I guess all these fellas are sponge-worthy:

The Porn Nazi!  Ridiculous.

Apparently, New Sensations already scored big with their XXX parodies of The Office and Scrubs.  And why stop there?  They should totally do Frasier next.

Where It’s At Pinpoints Pop Culture Landmarks

Yay!  This is fun.

Check out Where It’s At.  It’s an interactive map that points to locations referenced in pop culture, from the Grey’s Anatomy Seattle hospital to John Lennon’s New York City apartment.  Visitors can sort by different categories (e.g. “movie magic” or “totally tv”), and are encouraged to add in any missing landmarks.  Though still very incomplete-seeming, it’s a super fun map to click through; within minutes I visited both the Seinfeld diner “Monk’s” on the show, Tom’s Restaurant in real life) and the Elliott Smith Figure 8 wall.

Seinfeld: Monk'sElliott Smith: Figure 8

I decided to zoom in on my little home by the Bay (San Francisco, dummy!) to see what I could find.  I was met with your expected Grateful Dead house and Full House houses, as well as my favorite Bay Area fun fact.

FUN FACT!  You know the Weeds theme song (”Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky-tacky…”)?  It’s called “Little Boxes” and it’s sung by folk singer Malvina Reynolds.  Well get this: the satirical song was written when Reynolds saw the colorful rows of houses on a Daly City hill right here in the Bay.  Check ‘em out on your way into the SF from the airport.  Love that fact.

Little boxes made of ticky-tacky

Okay, enough about me.  Go visit your town!

As Seen on TV: Jason Alexander & Matt LeBlanc

Posted by KAT in Friends, Seinfeld

HA!  TV Squad recently posted a few television commercials starring beloved before-they-were-famous celebs.  My two faves:

Jason Alexander for McDonald’s:

Seinfeld’s George Costanza getting super stoked over the new McDLT!  He sings, he dances, he has a full head of hair!  I’m into it.  I really admire his enthusiasm.

Matt LeBlanc for Heinz. Turn the sound up for this one:

Very Mentos-esque, no?  That’s Joey Tribbiani from Friends (and Joey - yecch!) gettin’ crafty with some Heinz ketchup.  I really like how being a hunk in the late ’80s meant looking pensive and flipping your collar up.  Just look at the Coreys.

These sorts of commercials are exactly the sort of thing the Internet’s good for, in case you were wondering. Got any others?

Time to get educated, people!  Today, a lesson in modern art…

Would you look at this amazing piece of Seinfeld-inspired work? Artist Kiersten Essenpreis managed to squeeze 99 references to the show on one canvas!  You’ll find 99 allusions to inside jokes, story lines, characters, props, etc. in this one image.

99 Seinfeld References

Love it!  A very handy reference key has also been provided by the artist, for those of you not in the Seinfeld know (shame on you!).
