Chace Crawford Kicks Off His Sunday Shoes

Well, lordy, lordy.  Over the past few weeks, the buzz from the bee’s has been that Paramount’s been chasing High School Musical’s Zac Efron to star in an upcoming remake of 1984’s Footloose.  However, it was confirmed this week that it’ll be Chace Crawford from Gossip Girl in the starring role as dance-happy Ren McCormack, the character made famous by Kevin Bacon.

Now’s about the time we choose ourselves a leading lady!  The rumor mill’s been churning with possibilities.  Babes in the running include Heroes’s Hayden Panettiere, What I Like About You’s Amanda Bynes, Dancing With the Stars pro Julianne Hough and Hannah Montana’s Miley Cyrus.  What a line-up!

All decent contenders, I suppose (aside from that Hayden Purseface - do NOT want to see that toddler body gyrating!), but I have some concerns.  One concern, really: Chace is way too pretty for these ladies!  They’ll look like sweatstains next to him!

Well, let’s see what we’re working with:

Chace Crawford and Hayden Panettiere in… Footloose!!!

You see what I mean?  What a bunch of hags!  All doughy-faced and frizzy-haired next to our man Chace.

But don’t fret, I’ve come up with a quick fix.  For the approval of Paramount Pictures, I present my candidates for Footloose dream couple:

Chace Crawford and Taylor Swift in… Footloose!!!

Two cat-eyed, country-flavored hotties!  The perfect match!  Am I right or am I right?

Whaddaya think?

Heroes’ Hero’s Quest

HeroesInteresting news this morning for Heroes fans: Variety reports that co-executive producers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb have gotten the boot.  It seems the higher-ups over at NBC were unhappy with the creative direction of the show.

This season’s been getting a lot of bummer press lately, perhaps most recently the Entertainment Weekly cover story (”Fallen Heroes” - ouch!) outlining what’s wrong with the show and how to fix it.

Sheesh.  Jesse and Jeph, good luck in future endeavors or whatevs, but I gotta say,  a) Why would you spell a perfectly decent name like Jeff like that?, and b) A hero whose superpower is hugging people to death?  Are you kidding me?  Were you drunk when you came up with that?

Now I realize this is snooze cruise news for anyone who doesn’t care about behind-the-scenes staffing changes, but it’s possible you may be thanking your lucky stars soon for the firing of Jesse and Jeff (sic).

Not to make this all about me or anything, but it’s moments like these that I think back to the steady decline of The O.C. partway through the second season.  Season one, what a masterpiece!  The quips, the callbacks, the class conflict, the Chino lighting!  A thing of beauty -  but then oy, what a sophomore slump! And it only kept snowballing.

Riddle me this, Josh Schwartz: could a staffing change have fixed that?  Could we have gotten some new writers up in that mix?  We’ll never know.

Good luck, Heroes!  I wish you all the best in your quest to not suck.
