Where are the fatties?
Well folks, I nearly spit out my coffee when I came across this tidbit: The Biggest Loser, which has already spun off one “fitness spa” in Utah, has another one opening in Malibu. Clearly, it’s not called fat camp when it’s for adults—it’s a fitness spa resort. For only $2,295-$2,695 a week (not including taxes!), your fat ass can be starved and beaten into a slightly less fat ass, through beatings (er, exercise) and assessments. It’s totally fat camp! Seriously, do not kid yourselves. It. Is. Fat. Camp. Speaking of Fat Camp, ya’ll remember MTV’s Fat Camp documentary? With Petey and Diane and all the drahhhmazz? Dang! Maybe I am interested, if this’ll be anything like that! Do you think they search guests’ luggage upon arrival? Do spot checks for smuggled in beer and candy bars? Will Allison Sweeney be around when you really need a hug and a pep talk? Neither the secret hellcat Bob Harper nor the tempestuous Jillian Michaels will be in attendance, but there will be other trainers to scream at you as you haul your aching body up a mountain, swearing that if you survive, McDonald’s has seen the last of you. If fat camp just doesn’t seem like the right fit, a Biggest Loser Celebrity cruise is planned for 2011. You know what this reminds me of? Disneyland. Every time Disney has a super successful movie, they turn it into a ride. Fat camp is The Biggest Loser’s theme park! And what happens when you leave the theme park? You go back to the real world. Yeah. Hello, fat ass.
The new season of fatitude and overcoming fatversity starts two weeks from today. NBC has the contestant info (including starting weights) posted already, and there’s no HOLY MOLY HE’S FAT person this year—just a lot of sob stories and talk of shopping in regular stores. And a woman who claims to be a spin instructor (but is on The Biggest Loser?—Ok!). Ooh—maybe The Biggest Loser and Survivor could do a crossover season! How awesome would that be?! All we have to do is get one to jump networks…it’s so crazy, it just might work!
