Survivor: Nicaragua Pits Old Against Young

Survivor: Nicaragua castSurvivor returns September 15th with Survivor: Nicaragua and, as is customary in recent seasons, there’s a gimmick. This season of Survivor will divide the 20 contestants into a “young” and “old” tribe! The young “La Flor” (flower) tribe will be comprised of cast members under the age of 30. The mature “Espada” (sword) tribe will range from ages 40 and older.

What? No 30-somethings allowed this season? And why compare young vs. old to “flower” vs. “sword”? Why not “flower” vs. “dried-up has-buds”? Just kidding, I love me some old people so I’ll likely be rooting for the Espada tribe to stick it to the youngins. Plus, isn’t “ESPADAAAA!” a more intimidating tribal war cry than “La Flor! *meep*”?

This will be interesting because usually physical strength is the key advantage for early tribal challenges pre-merge. Will the Espada seniors be able to keep up with La Flor and manage to win challenges from the get-go?

Possibly. Because according to deep-dimpled host, Jeff Probst, this season will introduce a new twist: the *drumroll* Medallion of Power (seriously? That’s the name they came up with?) which will give tribes an advantage during immunity challenges. The drawback is once the Medallion is used, it must be handed over to the opposing tribe. It’s intended to create many nail-biting, “Should we, or shouldn’t we use it?” moments. Old Espada folks, I say USE IT to give yourself an advantage over the stronger youngsters (damn their vitality and athletic prowess! You have the Medallion of Power in your grasp!).

Who will the sole survivor be: a member of the Young team or Old team? Tune in to CBS on September 15th for the Survivor: Nicaragua premiere! Watch this video to meet this season’s cast members:

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
