LOL, We Love Wipeout!

It’s summertime! And with summer comes sunblock, ice cream, beach balls, pool parties, BBQs and a little game show called Wipeout! Every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm, ABC delights us with hilarious, “Ooooh! That’s gotta hurt!” footage of contestants sprinting, jumping, screaming, falling and bellyflopping as they make their way through obstacle courses that push and pummel them into muddy pools below. It’s the perfect mindless, funny action you want on a lazy summer night!
Not like it’s anything new - we’ve known for a long time that people can’t help but point and laugh when someone else takes a stumble. In fact, Wipeout isn’t even the first of its kind! It was inspired by 2003’s Most Extreme Elimination Challenge (MXC), which was just re-purposed footage of the 1986 Japanese game show Takeshi’s Castle (but with goofy English dubbing). I prefer MXC to Wipeout because it’s edgier and the snarky commentary and voice-overs are chuckle-licious, but both shows are a surefire remedy whenever you feel like guffawing at others being jostled and bounced around on ridiculous obstacle courses.
