Square Eyes Poll Results: Best Show of the ’00s

Posted by KAT in Square Eyes Poll, The West Wing

December 31st, 2009, 02:42 PM

This week’s poll results were somewhat surprising - to me, at least.  On Monday, we dared ask….

Q: What’s the Best TV Show of the Decade?

The West Wing cast

A: The West Wing!

And by a landslide (jk, not sure what constitutes a landslide)!  With just about a third of the vote, The West Wing swept our poll and won the ‘00 crown.  The Aaron Sorkin drama, set in the West Wing (duh) of the White House, first aired in late 1999 and ran seven years thereafter, collecting a number of Golden Globes and Emmys on the way.  Most episodes followed fictional Democratic president Josiah Bartlet (Martin Sheen) and his staff as they tackled legislative and political issues.  Though often criticized for its glorification of liberal administration and critiques of conservative politics, The West Wing was still a mayjah mayjah hit across America.

Stay class, readers!  I’m impressed with your high-brow tastes lately.  See you in the New Year!

Dick Clark & Ryan SeacrestStaying in and watching TV tonight?  How ’bout you check out Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2010?

TV Squad jokes that they should’ve called it Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Ball Drop From Times Square In New York City with American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest, December 31, 2009 Happy New Year Music Extravaganza!, but I beg to differ.  I think they should’ve gone with Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Live From Times Square in New York City Where You Watch the Ball Drop at This Time of Year (Actually This Day Specifically) Hosted By Nice American Idol Guy Ryan Seacrest (No, Not Simon, He’s the Mean One) to Say Goodbye to 2009 and Hello to 2010 Party Night!

Sorry, bad joke.  Happy New Year’s, everybody!

Who Wants to Date Jersey Shore’s Snooki?

Jersey Shore: SnookiIt’s been a few days, hasn’t it?

Let’s talk about Jersey Shore again!

I just finished reading an interview with the lovable Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi in OK! Magazine and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight.  I suggest you go and read the whole thing, but in the meantime, here’s a choice bit for your consumption:

What’s next for Snooki?
I want a dating show — Snookin’ For Love. I want to find my prince. I’d have 27 guys: guidos and juice heads. That’d be heaven. Every time I’d pick a guy, I’d give them a pickle and we’d eat the pickles at the end.

Now THAT is an idea!  I gotta hand it to Snooki, she’d make a really great TV exec.  She gives the people what they want, you know?

Will Snooki be the next Daisy of Love?  I’ve admitted before that Daisy was my favorite reality dating show of all time, but I’m open to others.  I hope Snooki’s up for that challenge.

The Many Faces of Betty White

So I was all SNOOZE scrolling through a big batch of ‘For Your Consideration’ posters on AwardsDaily.com, when my eyeballs encountered this gem and did a major BOING:

The Proposal FYC Poster: Betty White

If it’s wrong, why does it feel so right?

Golden Girl Betty White’s FYC poster should be printed on a t-shirt and worn by people everywhere.  Have you ever seen something so incredible?

Glee’s Jane Lynch to Guest on The Cleveland Show

The Cleveland Show: Ms. Eck and Roberta

Yay!  Kind of awesome: Glee’s Sue Sylvester, actress Jane Lynch, will be guesting on The Cleveland Show January 10th.

Lynch will voice character Ms. Eck, Roberta’s new teacher, on the Family Guy spin-off.  Michael Ausiello posted a mini interview with Lynch to commemorate the occasion:

Are you a fan of Family Guy?
JANE LYNCH:
I love
Family Guy. I am also appalled and shocked by Family Guy. And I am proud to say that several children in my family under the age of 10 get it and love it, too.

How is Ms. Eck similar to Sue Sylvester?
LYNCH:
They both lack filters and say whatever awful thing comes into their mind. In-the-head-and-out-the-mouth syndrome.

And how are they different?
LYNCH:
Ms. Eck lacks Sue’s icy Nordic aggression.

Your first reaction upon viewing yourself in ‘toon form?
LYNCH:
Ms. Eck may have the largest, most disproportionate butt in cartoon history.

Should be awesome!  Though I’ve gotta say, I’m gonna miss that icy Nordic aggression.

Meet the Cast of The Real World D.C.!

Tomorrow night marks the premiere of the 23rd season of The Real World.  TWENTY-THREE!  Can you believe it?

Season 23 kicks off in Washington, D.C. with eight strangers.  Picked to live in a house.  And have their lives taped.  Now, I’m going to stop being polite and start getting real here, with a quick look at who to expect in our new Ikea-furnished abode…

The Real World XXIII: Washington, D.C.

The Real World: AndyThe Real World: AshleyThe Real World: CallieThe Real World: EmilyThe Real World: ErikaThe Real World: JoshThe Real World: MikeThe Real World: Ty

Top row, left to right: Andrew, Ashley, Callie, Emily
Bottom row, left to right: Erika, Josh, Mike, Ty

So you can read all their bios here, but why would you?  Isn’t it much more fun to predict what’s going to happen based on just these photos?

Okay, so basically, Andrew is a preacher’s son from the South who finds Ashley’s Latin good looks immediately appealing but really strikes out with her by calling her “so, so exotic” too many times.  This makes Callie, a tennis instructor from Miami, extremely happy, because she is secretly head-over-heels for Andrew.  None of this really matters to Emily, a bisexual Harley Davidson spokesmodel who’s deciding between Erika and JoshErika’s the tougher nut of the two to crack; not only is she not into girls, she’s not into boys, either.  She spends most of her time drinking coffee and experimenting with body art.  Community organizer Josh, on the other hand, is busy campaigning for Obama even though Obama’s already been elected into office.  At least it gets him out of the house!  Which is more than we can say for Texan Mike, who spends 80% of his time on the kitchen floor doing sit-ups.  The other 20% of the time, he’s out at the clubs experimenting with his sexuality.  Finally, we have Ty, who knows MTV expects him to be black and angry, and is anything but.  He sits and types sonnets on an old typewriter he brought with him from Portland.

Spot on, right?  We’ll find out tomorrow night now many of my predictions will come true.

Hee!  I’m pretty into celebrity cameos on Sesame Street and this here clip is no exception.  Check out Ricky Gervais from The Office (UK) singing little baby Elmo to sleep:

Wow!  Dude’s got good pipes! What a lovely and totally ineffective celebrity lullaby.

P.S. I really love when Elmo’s eyeballs go askew.  Does that happen often?

What’s a day without a Jersey Shore video or two to brighten it?  Why, a day not worth my 24 hours, that’s what!

Don’t worry, I’ve got a pair of vids of our favorite guidos and guidettes to show off today.  First off, a behind-the-scenes look at Jersey Shore.  Find out what The Situation, Snooki, and Pauly D are like behind closed doors:

Zing!  Those were pretty crappy smart people accents, don’t ya think?

Next up, a ballad to take us home.  Here’s an instructional video on how to master the Pauly D blow-out:

Quelle coif!  So, so good.  He really does make it look effortless.

That’s all for now!  I’ll be back soon enough wtih 10-15 more videos.  These cats are on fire!

Square Eyes Poll: Best Show of the ’00s?

I Heart the '00s

This week will be the very last of the ’00s, possibly one of the awesomest decades in TV so far.  Sure, that’s easy to say for someone like me who hasn’t been around too many decades, but I think once you check out the list of shows that came out in the past ten years, I think you’ll agree.  And without further ado, we ask…

Happy voting!

The Tyra Banks Show: Tyra BanksBig announcement from Tyra Banks this morning: The Tyra Banks Show is ending!

The current fifth season of the daytime talk show will be the supermodel’s last.  Ty-Ty will instead be focusing on the launch of Bankable Studios, her film production company, which will reportedly paint positive images of women in film.  We’ll be saying bye bye to Ty-Ty and The Tyra Banks Show this coming spring 2010.

Puh-leeeeeeze!  Way to bite Oprah’s style in every way, Tyra!  What’s next, a magazine with your face on every cover?  Fine.
