Coming This Fall: The Vampire Diaries

In case you haven’t heard, vampires are SO HOT right now. Twilight mania has infiltrated our skulls and all we want to do is watch the hunky, brooding undead flirt it up with us regular folk.
Well, The CW has decided to jump on the bandwagon! This fall, the network will be bringing us The Vampire Diaries, a new show based on the hit book series, brought to us by Kevin Williamson, the mind behind Dawson’s Creek and the Scream movies.
Let’s take a look at the extended trailer:
What do you think? To me, it sort of just looks like the poor man’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a dash of imitation Gossip Girl mixed in for extra flavor. And knowing Kevin Williamson, it has a 50% chance of being decent and 50% chance of being pretentious. My vote’s on pretentious. And slow-paced and boring.
Yeah, basically I’m giving this one a thumb’s down. There’s way too much other good stuff to watch!

It kind of takes the magic out of the genre when people become obsessed with it. Especially when they catalyse is a series whose claim to fame is a sparkly, masochistic, vegitarian vampire. There are so many other good shows out there and it’s kind of sad that they are making a new one based on a bad book, while other shows fall through the cracks and get cancelled.

I’m rather stoked to watch it. I dont watch tv, but i will be making an exception. I read the first vampire diaries when i was in sixth grade. this came before twilight was a glimmer in stephanie meyers eye. lj smith is a brilliant author. I hope they do the books justice.
