DWTS: Marini, Rycroft & Lil Kim Top Our List
Posted by ERIN in Dancing With The StarsMay 5th, 2009, 09:50 AM

I’m “take it or leave it” with Dancing With the Stars but caught enough of last night’s Top 5 dance-off to pick my final 3 couples. Let’s get this show on the road.
1. Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke — Foxtrot and Rumba (VIDEOS): Mon dieu, this fine Frenchman has housewives sweatin’ all over their bon bons (the candies, not some gross euphemism)! Gilles isn’t afraid to use his sultry charisma to his advantage and he’s even less inhibited about being 150% flamboyant to nail his moves. That’s going to really help, not to mention his chemistry with Cheryl is in a (French) word: parfait. Every time I see him, my brain asks, “Is that John “Uncle Jesse” Stamos?!” but no, Gilles is just a demi-Stamos. Still, Monsieur Marini is just so gosh durn humble off the dancefloor that he should have enough fans to take him to Top 2 - if not win that blessed Mirrorball trophy altogether.
2. Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani — Viennese Waltz and Samba (VIDEOS): I still like Melissa “The Bachelor reject” Rycroft. Even though she is awwwfully Jessica Simpson-esque in looks, she’s really talented and fun to watch. I was not convinced that her Samba was as “flawless” as the judges said (something off in her steps at times, and missing some fire - or FIYAAAH!), but she deserves to stay for a long time. Also, I’m sure she’s fine but some odd maternal instinct in me wants her to keep on dancing week to week so she can keep her mind off of the Bachelor humiliating her on national TV. Is it just me? Dance out the heartache, girlfriend!
3. Lil Kim and Derek Hough — Waltz and Salsa (VIDEOS): I really like Lil Kim. She and Derek are two of the weirdest looking people with their pointy noses [SIDE NOTE: what is UP with Derek's face? Who does he remind me of besides Michael Jackson or a skeleton? I can't pinpoint it yet.], but she is just a sweetheart behind that raunchy, rappin’ jailbird exterior. I can see winning means a lot to her, and I love that she gets really emotional about high scores - it’s all just about getting acceptance/approval from people for her. I love ya, Kimmie - keep on doing that thing you do!
I feel like Gilles needs to definitely be in the finals, but I’d be happy seeing either lady-star go against him. The other two couples? Both likable but not compelling enough to watch at the end of the road…
Ty Murray and Chelsie Hightower — Argentine Tango and Rumba (VIDEOS): If all is fair, my crush (there, I admitted it!) Ty Murray will go home tonight. He is cuter than a button-nosed bunny with his Southern twang and boyish dimpled-smile - plus, he works hard! Dancing don’t come natural to this rodeo king, and he’s improved and gotten so much more confident since the premiere. I really heart him, to be honest, but he just lacks the natural fluidity that a champion in DWTS should have.
Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas — Quickstep and Paso Doble (VIDEOS): I have still not hitched a ride on the Shawn Johnson bandwagon. Why? Cuz she’s really boring as a performer. Yeah, she can hit the moves, but she’s also kinda like an empty shell who doesn’t emote beyond a cheesy perma-grin or blank “serious” face. And that has nothing to do with her teen-age because we know there are other 17-year-old girls out there who can perform with a lot of intensity and passion [shameless Allison Iraheta plug here]. Also, Julianne Hough was Shawn’s age about 3 years ago and you know she was en fuego then. So for me it comes down to innate charisma and Shawn doesn’t really have much behind her chipper little mouse-face. However, I am a fan of Shawn’s mom, who looks EXACTLY like her baby girl.
Guess time’s up for Ty Murray tonight. Happy trails to you, cutie.
