Anybody looking for an easy summer read?  I’ve got just the thing.

L.A. CandyThe Hills: Lauren Conrad

Teen Vogue published an excerpt from Lauren Conrad’s upcoming young adult novel, L.A. Candy this week. As you’ll recall, The Hills star is penning a book for teens following the exploits of a young girl who moves to Hollywood to star on her own reality show, L.A. Candy.

Sound familiar?  Well, that cuz the novel is basically thinly-veiled account of LC’s time on The Hills.  Sure, the main character’s name is Jane Roberts, not Lauren Conrad, and she works as an event planner, not an intern at Teen Vogue.  And yeah, she changed Brody’s name Braden, and all that jazz.  But come on!   It’s 100% Lauren.

Here’s a particularly juicy excerpt:

She frowned at the cameras, which were supposed to be capturing “an average workday.” Well, now, the L.A. Candy viewers are going to see my average butt getting yelled at, Jane thought.

She sighed and started down the hall toward Fiona’s office.

“Wait! Jane!” A man wearing an earpiece rushed up to her. “Hey, I’m Matt. I’m directing today’s shoot.”

What did he mean, directing? She thought they were just following her around. What needed to be directed?

OMG, such existential angst! Genius! I could swear this was ghostwritten by J.D. Salinger himself.

L.A. Candy comes out June 16 wherever books are sold.  Good beach read, no?  Sure beats an episode of The Hills.
